Musica Viva Spreads comprises nine handmade quilts, each featuring abstract compositions inspired by the layout of nine double pages from the first issue of Musica Viva magazine. Founded by my grandfather, Hermann Scherchen, Musica Viva aimed to provide a platform for avant-garde music during a time of political turmoil in Nazi Germany. With every article printed in four languages (English, French, German, and Italian), the magazine's internationalism was present on every page. Despite its global appeal, the magazine's utopian vision proved costly, leading to its discontinuation after three issues.

For this project, I assigned a distinct color to each language featured in the magazine—orange for English, green for French, red for German, and blue for Italian. The quilts blend geometric imagery with functional design. They can be arranged individually or combined to form larger compositions for wall or ceiling displays.
