The Search for the Spirit exhibition took place in the assembly hall of a school situated in Mechelen, which is not typically used for exhibitions. The display was made up of wall sections painted off-white, arranged at various angles to create cluster areas for viewing within the more extensive presentation. The walls' arrangement created viewpoints and passages through which visitors could move inside and outside the system, emphasising the idea of 'search' conveyed in the exhibition's title.
The wall element of the display can be traced back to the series Wall Works made between 2007 and 2009, such as Interstices, Brilliant Corners, and What Time is It?
The Search for the Spirit is curated by Grant Watson as part of All That Is Solid Melts Into Air, an exhibition in the context of the cultural festival City visions in Mechelen, conceived by M HKA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp
