Idle
2017
Tubular steel, pine board
Two elements, each 70 x 50 x 100 cm
In Idle, the prefabricated steel frames of IKEA chairs and wooden shelves are repurposed in a way that subverts their intended function. This disconnection is mirrored by the two figures lounging sideways on the chair frames, seemingly detached from their surroundings.
The sculpture is part of a series of works that explore themes of the body, distance, proximity, tension, and the desire for communication, using standard furniture elements as raw material. These include Untitled (Cairo) (2010), Strength (2013), and High Five (2015).
